Old Colwyn man had 5,000 child porn images

A MAN was found to have more than 5,000 indecent images of children on his computers.
Philip Lewis, 61, who lived alone, got sexual gratification from looking at the stills and movie images – some of the worst kind imaginable.
Lewis, of Ensleigh Road, Old Colwyn, enjoyed watching them on his television screen rather than on his laptop – so he had copied them onto DVDs.
Mold Crown Court heard details of some of the images – which included children as young as two and three.
But Lewis, who admitted a total of 19 charges of making or possessing the images, some in the worst category, escaped an immediate prison sentence.
Judge Dafydd Hughes, sitting at Mold Crown Court yesterday sentenced him to 52 weeks imprisonment, suspended for two years.
He was sent on a sex offender group work programme, was placed on two years supervision, and ordered to remain indoors at night for the next four months on an electronic tag.
Lewis must register with the police as a sex offender for the next 10 years and he was also made the subject of a Sexual Offences Prevention Order (SOPO) to curb his use of the Internet in future.
The judge said that the reason he was able to suspend the sentence was that he was aged 61 and that he had, until the images came to light, been a man of previous good character.
Tom Bureau, defending, said he was a man who had acted in a charitable capacity and had assisted with the scouts.
