Colwyn Bay elderly couple’s life made living hell: CCTV footage shows attacks on family car
Police appeal for information after elderly couple suffer attacks and intimidation
AN ELDERLY couple in Colwyn Bay are having their life made a living hell by vandals.
Margaret and Barry Owens, both in their 70s, have been the victims of a series of attacks and intimidation over the summer, since the hostility began on June 3.
Mr Owens, 76, has had his car covered in pink paint, his windscreen smashed by a wheel clamp and human excrement has been posted through their front door.
The couple, who have lived on Greenfield Road for eight years since moving back from Florida, have contacted the police but so far have had no luck tracking down those responsible.
Mrs Owens has described her day-to-day life as a “living hell”.
She said: “We’ve had problems for eight years but it has really turned intimidating and threatening now.”
“We’ve had human excrement posted through the door, it’s just intolerable.
“Every day I wake up worried about what will be next, my husband’s disabled, we should be getting looked after.
“Our daughter has told us to move but why should we? This is our home. We bought it to downsize and now we’re being forced out.”
Mrs Owens can’t understand why her and her husband are being targeted.
Wiping away a tear she said: “We’re nice people. I ran a guest house for 30 years and you can’t succeed in that sort of business without being, you know, a nice person.
“I don’t really know why it’s happening. It could be because they’re jealous of us, they think we’ve got lots of money or something. They’re just trying to bully us to move out.”
Husband Barry has become exasperated by the lack of police progress.
He said: “Up to now they’ve been absolutely no help. We’ve had all these support groups try and help us but they still haven’t caught anyone.
“We’ve had anti-social behaviour support, victims of crime support but that’s no help. We just want these people caught.
“Until the person or persons responsible is caught we won’t be able to live in peace.”
Mr Owens installed CCTV around his property and has captured footage of the attacks against his car but thus far police have been unable to catch the offenders.
Acting Inspector Sian Williams said: “We are aware of issues from a number of parties in the Greenfield Road area of Colwyn Bay. There is currently an on-going investigation into the matters and it would be inappropriate to comment further at this stage.”
“North Wales Police take every report of crime and antisocial behaviour seriously and each incident is investigated appropriately and professionally.”
Anyone who may recognise the man in the footage should contact police on 101.
