Rat poo found in cigarettes and tobacco seized in Conwy
Poison 'human waste' and blood also found in illicit products at an unnamed shop in the county
Cigarettes and handrolled tobacco containing rat poo have been seized by trading standards officers.
Conwy County Council teams made the discovery after swooping on one unnamed shop in the county.
They sent the items to scientists for tests and came up with the disgusting finding.
Several suspects have been identified and may be prosecuted.
Conwy said on their Facebook page on Tuesday that: “Officers from Trading Standards assisted by North Wales Police, Wagtail UK and Immigration conducted a search of a premise in our local area.
“During this search we uncovered a large quantity of illicit cigarettes and hand rolling tobacco.
“Tests have shown that these illicit products contain, rat poison, rat waste, blood, plastics, and human waste products.
“We would ask that you share this information on your Facebook pages and urge anyone you know who smokes to be careful where they buy their tobacco from.
“If someone offers you a deal for cheap tobacco just think what you might be smoking.”
Spokesman Mark Brierley was not surprised as counterfeit goods seizures are increasing.
He said: “It’s likely that these cigarettes were made in an outhouse or a container. The makers don’t care what goes in them.”
Regarding the seller he says: “We have a number of people we’re looking at. Prosecutions may follow.”
And the local authority also invites people to come forward to help future operations in relation to illicit tobacco.
