Fire victim faced bigamy charge
| ||
A 63-year-old woman who died in an accidental fire at her home at Conwy was due to face crown court trial for bigamously marrying her late husband.Margaret Assheton-Smith was dragged from the burning chalet but paramedics were unable to save her in Thursday's blaze. The retired secretary was due to appear in Caernarfon Crown Court this Friday. The bigamy charge related to her marriage at Llandudno town hall in November to Derek Assheton-Smith. The retired Blackpool hotelier died from cancer at the end of December. Mrs Assheton-Smith first appeared before magistrates on the bigamy charge last April. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus rescued her from the fire on the Bryn Gynnog park but paramedics were unable to save her. North Wales Fire and Rescue Service said a neighbour dialled 999 after hearing a smoke detector. Crews from Conwy and Colwyn Bay were sent to the incident. |
Welcome to Colwyn Bay! Enjoy your stay! Witness the wonderful town that once was. The dream for the people of Colwyn Bay was the Restoration of the Pier. This was a beacon of hope for the town, but now with it's destruction looming, its demolition goes against the public's wishes. This town has nothing left to give, or fight for. It's just another example of another loss to a once Loved town who's glory years have long since faded.
