A MEMBER of a trust working to save Colwyn Bay Pier has begun a 300-mile charity walk

Chris Hemmings, aged 58, of the Colwyn Victoria Pier Trust, started his challenge on Monday, June 30, and is expected to arrive at Hastings Pier on July 8.

Mr Hemmings, who hopes to raise £30,000 from his effort, said: “I am doing this not just for personal reasons, but to ensure that one of Colwyn Bay’s most iconic structures can still have a future.

“I have been preparing hard for this, sometimes even walking 40 miles a day, but it will be worth it if we can give the pier a future.”

Mr Hemmings will also meet with members of a similar trust in Hastings, who raised £15 million to save Hastings Pier.

He said: “I will be meeting to discuss and hopefully pick up some tips from them about the best ways to raise money, and what processes they had to go through to secure the safety of their pier.”

Anyone wishing to sponsor Mr Hemmings should visit his JustGiving page at www.justgiving.com/local/project/colwynpier.
